| Dear Readers, Welcome to the June 09 edition of the “AIL Newsletter”!! |
The month of June saw many interesting and entertaining events and several current and new visitors visited our site.
Sri Lankan & Indian internal political news dominated the month of June. As for Sri Lanka, the AIL management team now hope and pray that there will be a permanent political solution to satisfy to everyone’s aspirations so that the Sri Lankan people regardless of their language or religious background can feel at home and lead lives of dignity at their own free will. |
| What a treat for the cricket fans, with an excellent 20/20 world cup cricket series hosted in England. The games were action-packed, held many at the edge of their seats and displayed talents from all around the globe. Cricket fans had an outstanding piece of cricket displayed and AIL has been covering all these games, results and points tables online. Sri Lanka and Pakistan advanced to the finals, and despite all the betting experts predicting that Sri Lanka had the edge to win the game; Pakistan played confidently, putting on an excellent bowling and batting display to take the final comfortably. The tournament was nothing less than spectacular and a testament to how this type of game is gathering momentum amongst the international cricketing world. |

Let me start this month with a happy note. The stand off between Mumbai film producers and nation wide multiplex cinema owners, over a dispute in revenue share has finally been resolved. As a result new films are to hit the screen soon.
It’s good news for Bollywood film distributors in Australia.
Eros Australia will bring out “Kambakkht Ishq” and “Love Aaj Kal” in July while Mind Blowing Films , new company in the horizon has just released in the Hoyts cinemas ,the much awaited film “New York”, the story of which is about three friends living a carefree life in New York.. Written and Directed by Kabul Express fame Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan.

| Festival of the Tooth

"Your country has many colourful festivals, hasn’t it?" a colleague of mine said a few days ago, right after reading the last few "Melbourne Diary” articles."Yes, we do," I replied, "Sri Lankans love festivals".
"So what is the biggest and most elaborate one?" she asked."Ah," I replied, "by far the grandest is the Festival of the Temple of the Tooth. It’s full of pageantry and history”."That sounds interesting," she said. "When and where is it held?’
"In Kandy” I replied. There was a long and very pregnant pause, in which she stared at me. "Right," she said sceptically, "Candy. Festival of the Tooth. Oh yeah, where else would it be? Come on – you’re having me on, aren’t you?” "It’s true, it’s true," I exclaimed indignantly - then began to laugh, realising exactly how funny it did sound.
