Aussie police seek public help over assault on Lankan

The Australian police have sought public assistance to track down a man who assaulted a Sri Lankan migrant at a Melbourne train station over the weekend. The incident which was caught on security cameras shows the suspect smash a bottle on the migrant and run away with his laptop.

Francis, a married father of two and recent migrant from Sri Lanka who did not want his surname used, said he had five stitches in a deep cut above his left eye, had fainted after the attack when he bled profusely.

"I thought public transport was quite safe, now my family are terrified, they don’t want me to use it, my life has changed," he told Australian media.

"Most likely I will be driving to work, I never thought this would happen to me in Berwick, I considered it a very safe neighbourhood.

Police were confident the public release of the video footage showing the attacker’s distinct rapper style clothes would help them identify the offender.

The offender is believed to have been involved in gate-crashing and burgling a party on the same night and is described as bare chested, having a tanned complexion, 19-20 years old, with a slim to medium build.

He was wearing a red cap, red bandana around his neck, low riding jeans with red boxer shorts half exposed.
