Houseboat hirers welcome river optimism

Chief executive of the Houseboat Hirers Association says River Murray tourism operators in South Australia are starting to reap the benefits of a more positive image.

Peter Tucker says a combination of marketing campaigns, raised awareness and recent rain are turning around a negative perception of the river.

He says drought misconceptions have had a huge impact on communities and says it is great to see that changing.

"[It] was great down at the recent boat show, we spent four days there with the Riverland and Murraylands regional manager and it was very positive," he said.

"Twelve months ago we were getting a lot of negativity but this year it wasn’t there.
