Farmers want pipeline shut off

Updated - 7/9/2010 - news.com.au.

THE Victorian Farmers Federation wants the controversial north-south pipeline to be switched off once the state’s floodwaters subside.

"It was always justifiably built as an emergency for Melbourne’s water supply," he said.

"But Melbourne’s catchments now have enough water until the desalination plant comes online.

"It’s the right thing to do given the seasonal conditions and governments should be responsive to the seasonal conditions."
