‘Bomb was in Bakery for 90 mins before it went off’

Updated - 14/3/2010 - indianexpress.

Pune Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh on Saturday blamed the German Bakery staff saying they were negligent, as the bag with the bomb was lying abandoned at the bakery for around 90 minutes before it went off.

While there has been no breakthrough regarding the perpetrators even after a month, Singh said the blast happened because the Bakery management was not alert and there was lack of awareness among those in the Bakery at the time.

“The bag carrying explosives was in the Bakery for about one-and-a-half hours. A waiter who saw the bag thought someone had forgotten it and informed the cashier,” Singh said.

“We had given security guidelines to German Bakery in October last year. It had mentioned steps to be followed if an abandoned bag was found. The Bakery staff should have informed the police about the bag. But they did not,” he said.
